OUR SCHOOL

About Our School

Anchorsholme Primary School was opened in 1967 and is in a pleasant residential area to the north of Blackpool. The school caters for children between the ages of 4 and 11 years of age and there are currently approximately 618 pupils on roll.

We Are Providing an Environment for Our pupils to Grow & Excel

A major building program then took place in 2012 which improved the shared areas and school halls. 5 years later in 2017, extensive work began to expand the caretakers cottage on-site to incorporate two further classrooms and a fully packed kitchen area.

At our last Ofsted Inspection in November 2019 Ofsted inspectors deemed Anchorsholme to be a ‘Good School’ and some of the judgements made on our school were – ‘Pupils are happy and safe in Anchorsholme Academy‘, ‘Teachers have high expectations‘, ‘Pupils say that they enjoy the wide range of after-school clubs and activities’.

Our Vision

Teaching the Professionals of tomorrow

Everyone in the school is encouraged to develop to his or her full academic and creative potential and to think, question, discuss and evaluate.

At Anchorsholme Academy our curriculum fosters a sense of belonging and the desire for our school family to be curious, confident, communicative and collaborative learners. Our intent is that children leave our school as resilient, motivated lifelong learners with high aspirations for their future.

Curious – having a thirst for knowledge.

Confident – being resilient and demonstrating a growth mind-set and self-belief.

Communicative – vocabulary and interaction is the key to learning and understanding.

Collaborative – ability to work together respectfully and effectively towards a common goal.

The school is fortunate to have a wide range of facilities including; two assembly halls (one with extensive performing arts facilities and the other with facilities for dance and gymnastics), an ICT suite and extensive IT provision across the school, a Confucius classroom (through which we teach Mandarin Chinese to all of our children), a Music / Recording Studio, a green screen area for video produciton, a purpose built Library and many spaces that support and extend learning.

The school has extensive grounds which include sports facilities, wildlife areas and planting and growing areas. One area of the grounds has been developed as an outside classroom and conservation area to support various curriculum projects. The children are also responsible for a large produce growing area. There are extensive hard and grass play and sports areas including two multi use games areas, a “mile a day track” and two football pitches. We even have a “tram” on site where children can relax.

We are also very fortunate to have 2 school mini buses, which we use to support our school visits. All the facilities at Anchorsholme Academy are situated at ground floor level and the school has 3 easily accessible disabled toilets.

As a school we are committed to providing the widest possible opportunities for our children. A wide range of extra-curricular activities are available to the pupils. These include Football, Rounders, Netball, Badminton, Cricket, Drama, Art Club, Coding Club, Choir & Computing. All of these clubs are provided by staff and other volunteers offering their time on a voluntary basis.

4 fully qualified peripatetic music teachers visit the school each week to teach brass, guitar and woodwind skills to small groups of children. A charge is made for these lessons. In addition all of our children in Year 3 have the opportunity to learn to play a Recorder. Mr Morley teaches the children drumming lessons.

We also have a number of outside organisations who offer lessons in Dance, Tae Kwondo and Karate for the children before and after school – these events are paid for and organised directly with the group involved and telephone numbers are available via the main office.

Everyone in the school is encouraged to develop to his or her full academic and creative potential and to think, question, discuss and evaluate.

The school promotes personal and social development. Everyone is encouraged to join in a wide variety of experiences in addition to those associated with the classroom. The pursuit of ideals and qualities such as enthusiasm is encouraged.

Co-operation and care for others is fostered. Everyone is encouraged to explore his or her responsibilities at home, at school and in the local and global environment.

The school is staffed and resourced with this in mind and the curriculum is planned to offer the widest possible range of opportunities. Constructive parental involvement in the life of the school is encouraged and all parents are welcome to contact and to visit the school as they wish.

International Links

Anchorsholme Academy is an Associate School of the University of Cumbria in Lancaster, from where students join out family each year as part of their initial teacher training. Anchorsholme Academy is also a part of the ‘Schools Direct’ program which engages graduates in school based teacher training.

Through the University of Lancaster, Anchorsholme Academy has achieved Confucius Classroom status which allows us to link with Lancaster University and their teaching resources by placing up to 6 teachers and language assistants in the school for the teaching of Mandarin Chinese as our chosen foreign language. This allows us to provide this exciting opportunity to all classes across the school.
